You Scream And You Holler About My Chevy Impala. But The Sweat Is Getting Wet Around The Ring Around Your Collar.

Quick Hitters and Random Thoughts

--You are really missing out if you’re not watching Game of Thrones. This week’s episode was every bit as crazy, exciting and pivotal as last week’s. It’s going down on all fronts including Viserys’ head. Emilia Clarke is playing the hell out of Dany. I don’t know who they had portraying Dany before they switched to Emilia, but that was a smart move. It can’t be easy trying to eat a horse’s heart. Although fake convulsions probably aren’t too hard to sell in that particular scene.
Starks v. Lannisters continues to be a helluva rivalry. Ned is playing a dangerous game that’s right down Littlefinger’s alley, but not Ned’s. Can’t wait to see what happens when Catelyn and Tyrion return. Peter Dinklage owns Tyrion. How could you not think of Chunk in The Goonies when Tyrion started confessing his sins?

“And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other…” Great scene.
I’m pretty sure “great scene” will be able to be used anytime Arya and Syrio are in the same room. Silver and gold to whoever cast this show.
Pretty remarkable that before these last two episodes my favorite storyline was Jon Snow and The Wall and I haven’t even missed that angle after watching the awesome sauce of the last two weeks.

--In a somewhat related story Ms. Wynika Mason pulled a sword from its sheath at a Louisville Pizza Hut last week. No worries though since her wiser brother thought the car was a better place for the sword while Wynika continued her, no doubt crucial, debate with Pizza Hut employees.
To me Pizza Hut is the worst of the pizza chain pizzas. Why anyone would ever order pasta from Pizza Hut is beyond me..

--Cannot wait for Curb. Yeah, it's not as good as it used to be, but everyone needs a little more Leon and Larry in their lives.

--Well of course Lenny Dykstra tried to “rescue” Dwight Gooden from Celebrity Rehab. Doc and Lenny would totally be better than The Coreys.

--The Borgias first season is in the books and I liked it more than I thought I would after watching the first few episodes. I liked it because of King Charles VIII and his toy cannons, the move to action from romance and there was less Giovanni Sforza as the season wore on. Well until the finale, then there was too much. The annulment of his marriage to Lucrezia because of his “impotence” dragged on, but they didn’t seem to have anything better to fill the time with. The timing was also weird, in that one minute Lucrezia is starting to feel morning sickness, the next she’s having a baby. The finale was all about the ever expanding Borgia family and to a lesser degree King Charles’ conquest of Naples, which was the more interesting story to me. Here’s the Wikipedia link to King Charles VIII and the story of the Italian War.

--Seen one Killing, seen ‘em all. There just seems to be so many contrived little scenes that get on my nerves. Of course, Stan Larsen is helping unload a family’s belongings when a cute little girl wants her bike so Stan without either of her parents knowing just straps her helmet on her and sends her on her way in a neighborhood I’m guessing she doesn’t know. Of course, Mitch who couldn’t bring herself to do anything to Rosie’s room is now taking her textbooks back to the school just so she could see the accused teacher. And Linden who was always so careful to avoid telling anyone too much would tell Mitch that the arrest is going down tonight.
I haven’t minded the political stuff too much, maybe because it takes screen time away from the worst police investigation ever. But that basketball shot scene was just idiotic heightened by the cut to commercial as he takes the shot from what looked like eight feet away. Whatever.
I’m still picking Belko as the killer, but I care less and less every week. I’d probably stop watching if there was anything and I mean anything on television right now.

--If you saw the first Paranormal Activity you basically saw Paranormal Activity 2. The sequel hit mostly the same notes just not as effectively. I wasn’t a big fan of the ending. And how many times must we see white people foolishly ignore their Hispanic maids and their supernatural warnings? Estupido.

--If you haven’t seen or rather heard this clip yet from the tornado destruction in Joplin, Missouri the other day I highly recommend giving it a listen. Truly scary stuff.

--There’s depressing and then there’s the guy (Joseph Brooks) who wrote “You Light Up My Life” killing himself.

--I just never really got into The Chicago Code. It closed strong and when it stuck with Alderman Gibbons I liked it, but when it veered into a stand-alone episode I usually checked out.

--It’s gotten to the point on Modern Family where I don’t know how Cam and Mitchell even got together in the first place.

--It seems like this would be pretty rare, but Colby Rasmus walked five times against five different pitchers on Sunday. The last time it happened before that? 2008 when Milton Bradley did it. Now if someone can please figure out if Bill Hall has ever struck out five times against five different pitchers in one game…

--Dammit Bono and the Edge! Don’t make me break my streak of never having seen a second of American Idol. They’re supposed to be appearing in the finale.

--Eater Houston. About time.

--Deadspin with a Dead Wrestler of the Week that I wish I had never had to read. Macho Man.

--Florida Story of the Week comes to us from, well Florida. You know how when you’re at a public community restroom and there’s always that nude woman around? No? Me neither, but this is Florida we’re talking about so I’m sure that’s normal. Anyway, Mary Ramos Martin was not the nude woman, but her boyfriend was in that public restroom and, to Mary, he was in that restroom a little too long. So she did what any woman would do when her man spends too much time in the restroom. She tried to slice him up. First a foot-long gash on his chest and then a 6-inch cut in case he might have that the first slice was just an accident. Florida’d.

--Due to some DVR premature erase-ulation I still haven’t watched The Office finale. I assume James Spader was great.

--I don’t know what it is about Jean Pascal, but it brings out the excitement in Bernard Hopkins. The cheap shot and borderline (or over) dirty tactics remain, but this whole throw down thing is a nice touch for Hopkins. It doesn’t make much sense when Bernard says that now that’s he’s older and in the twilight of his career expect more of this new Bernard, but since when is Bernard supposed to make sense when he speaks? See post-fight Tina Turner reference. Either way that’s two entertaining Hopkins fights in a row which is a new record. Now just try not to end up like Roy Jones Jr.

--Edward James Olmos to Dexter?!

--Literally the best clip I’ve seen all day…

--The best link I’ve seen all day is this one to Ron Swanson’s best quotes from this past season. My personal top three:
“You had me at meat tornado.”
“When I walked in this morning I saw that the flag was at half mast, I though, ‘All right, another bureaucrat ate it!’ And then I saw it was Lil’ Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect!”
“The less I know about other people’s affairs, the happier I am. I’m not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.”

--Anna Kournikova on The Biggest Loser next season?!

--Alan Sepinwall takes a look back at Lost a year after its finale. Damn I miss that island.

Questions, comments or if you just calendared Voltron Force’s premiere on June 16th...

  1. Yo-

Game of Thrones continues to impress. I need some clarification as to what the names of the seven kingdoms are?? Is the Wall considered one of the Kingdoms?? Tyrion confessing his sins has to rank up there as one of the all time best scenes.....and the sons quote was classic "I want to know what happened with the donkey and the honeycomb" so do the rest of us kid...
Starks and Lannisters is going to be nice to watch play out. Uhhmm I don't think that is what my man had in mind when he wanted that golden crown...but yeah I think that would scene would be a candidate for 1001 Ways to Die episode. OUCH! Guess we know who isn't a dragon now....
Glad to see Ned is on the trail of what his predecessor was on to. Took him a minute but its about to get ugly for some people ...
The Killing....what can I say...I have watched this much of it..kind of hard to not find out who killed Rosie. Did they fire the writers from the first three/four episodes because something seems off since that third episode...I hope it turns around because this is getting a tad bit disappointing.

  2. The Wall isn't one of the kingdoms but simply the northern border of them.
I can't wait to see what Ned's investigating leads to down the road.

I'll watch The Killing because I've gone this far but I'd give it a C grade thus far. Maybe my expectations were too high based on what everyone said about the original Danish version and well it is AMC.
