Suckers they come a dime a dozen. And when I say dozen you know what I'm talking about boyee.

Quick Hitters and Random Thoughts

--I really want to start watching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia from the beginning and finally someone is going to start showing reruns. Thanks Comedy Central. I forgive you for Mind of Menc…well I don’t want to get carried away.

--On Sunday U2 is streaming its Rose Bowl concert. I can’t wait to hear that techno If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight again.

--I’m down with any Glee that uses Bust a Move, Thong Song, and Sweet Caroline. Always good to have more songs and less, well, whatever the storylines are. LA Times with its Top 10 Glee songs thus far. "Single Ladies" from the football team kills me every time. What I’d give for Kris Brown to kick an extra point like Kirk does or hell one of the Dynamo on a penalty kick to do the same. Interesting note they have about how "Leaving on a Jet Plane" was cut from the pilot.

--I finally made time to catch up on Modern Family. Yeah, if it wasn’t for my predisposition of liking Joel McHale, Chevy Chase, Trudie from Mad Men on the Community cast I might put Modern Family above it for best new comedy. Cool Dad from Family is Rappin’ Dad waiting to happen.

--Best named DVD this week: Planes, Trains and Automobiles: Those Aren’t Pillows Edition. Love that movie except for the profound sadness of scenes like John Candy pretending picture inserts are his family.

--Oh hell yeah, Easy Rider out on Blu-Ray. #1 Netflix queue.

--Why can’t Steve Phillips hold a fake press conference to talk about his affair with a Fatal Attraction-esque 22-year-old? Why wouldn’t you click the link to read about how this crazy contacted Steve’s 16-year-old son on Facebook posing as a classmate? And what a classy girl telling Steve’s wife (soon to be ex) that she would show her some of Steve’s sexts. Gotta love this line from the unapologetic NY Post:
"The scandalous and scary series of events began in mid-July, when the handsome Phillips had sex with the schlubby Hundley."
Schlubby?! Always nice when one of the few widely read newspapers refers to you as “schlubby.”

--Because no one is taking the raccoon threat seriously the little masked monsters are continuing their reign of terror. This time in Indiana where a 52-year-old woman had one underneath her trailer. So for some reason she decided to fill a paper bag with 8 or so smoke bombs, light them and then throw them under the trailer. She panicked when she saw ummmm…smoke. Anyway the raccoon got away scoring yet another victory for Procyon creatures everywhere.

--Top Chef Masters has been picked up for another season and that’s a very good thing. Can’t wait to see who’s gonna be in it to win it.

--The Packers signed Ahman Green? What year is it?

--Most Hilarious Pizza Coupon Ever! Well except for Tennessee fans. Number of free toppings equal to number of TDs scored against the Patriots. How'd that turn out again?

--Despite her Glee/Cheerio Coach responsibilities Jane Lynch will be back for Party Down’s second season. As will Kristen Bell. Party Down is the only reason to know where Starz is on your channel guide.

--I’ve never rooted for people to get out of jail more than this week when SAMCRO found themselves in there. Holy crap.

--Because you can never see enough January Jones GQ pics.

--Seriously how many times per day on average does the Black Eyed Peas DirecTV spot pop up on your TV? 20? 30?

--Restaurant Wars delivered and thankfully Jen avoided the ax. It would have been like a 1 seed going out in the 2nd round of the tournament if she had gone home instead of Laurine who was pretty much the most invisible, least memorable chef to ever make it to the final eight.

--Pretty Hate Machine turned 20 years old on October 20th. I am so f'n old.

--Seriously WTF?!

--Brad Penny has been pretty bad for a couple years now so how is he still pulling? Alyssa Milano, Eliza Dushku and now Karina Smirnoff from Dancing with the Stars?!

--Bronson Pinchot and Denzel Washington apparently are not BFFs. Favorite Pinchot role? No doubt, Elliott Blitzer in True Romance. Brad Pitt's greatest cinematic triumph as well. Definitely a top five movie all-time for me.

--Ashlee Simpson fired from Melrose? That’s got to be a low point for her.

--Hell yeah Sons of mf’n Anarchy beat Leno in the ratings last Tuesday night.

Questions, comments or if you can’t figure out why Hank Moody feels having Eva Amurri, Diane Farr and Embeth Davidtz at his beck and call is a bad thing…

  1. So much good stuff here, D, but let's start with the most important part: "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is required viewing...as in, right now. I finally watched it earlier in the summer and felt guilty for having put it off in favor of other shows for so long. It's like they have a pipeline to my soul, think "Seinfeld" on crack/speed/whatever other drug you wanna throw in. It's an instant classic and you may as well just buy it on DVD b/c you'll wanna own it anyway. Trust me.

I had high hopes for "Community" and I gotta say that it has its moments, but I find the LPMs to be kinda low compared to the rest of the NBC Thursday night lineup (and yes, that includes the much improved "Parks and Recreation"). I had no interest in "Modern Family" until I actually watched it and if nothing else, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen and that one hot neighbor enhance its stock in addition to the fact that it's pretty frickin' funny, Ty Burrell is awesome.

And yes, "Sons of Anarchy" may be the best show on tv right now. I'm not saying the overall best necessarily, but as far as being a show that brings it every week, I don't know of any other show that is on its level right now. If there were power rankings for tv shows, it'd be number one right now.

And finally, while I appreciate the assets that Susan Sarandon's daughter has been blessed with, is it just me or is Embeth Davidtz coming across as the most desirable in Hank Moody's horrible little predicament?

    Keep up the good work.

  2. yeah, i probably need to just break down and by the Sunny dvds. never heard from anyone who has watched who hadn't thought it was hilarious.

Great assessment of Sons of Anarchy. absolutely true. no show brings it week to week like it does.

eva amurri is just ridiculous. put all three in a hat and pick one out and you won't be disappointed.

    thanks for reading.
